For the non-horsey people, there are excellent walking trails; good cycle routes, Cholmondley Castle and Grounds (10 minutes in car); Beeston Castle; Crocky Trail; Ice Cream Factory; The beautiful city of Chester (17 miles); the Shropshire market town of Whitchurch is only 3 miles away and lots of local unspoilt Cheshire villages, the closest of which is Malpas.
